If anyone still has lingering doubts that the iPhone 15 series will have a USB-C port, images showing the internal hardware for the port have leaked out.
The end of the Lightning port is expected to be one of the major changes of the iPhone 15 series when it debuts next month.
USB-C in iPhone 15 is a near certainty
The Lightning port has been part of every iPhone since 2012. But that’s all about to change. The EU will soon block the release of phones that don’t include USB-C, and Apple is being forced to comply.
The changeover isn’t required until 2024 but numerous leaks indicate the change is happening with the iPhone 15 series.
Images showing the iPhone 15 Plus USB-C connector internal components were leaked on Monday by a tipster who calls themself Majin Bu.
The images are of more than just the port. There are additional internal parts, including a chip with the Apple logo.
“You can see the packaged chip on the iPhone 15 series,” says Majin Bu. “The model is 3LD3. Because it is a self-designed chip, the function cannot be judged by the model. Judging from the same type of plastic packaged chips in the past, it may be the setting of transmission encryption.”

Majin Bu has successfully leaked important Apple info in the past. That includes being the first to reveal the Stage Manager user interface for iPadOS months before it went official.
A consequential change
Replacing the Lightning port on the iPhone will save travelers from having to bring a special cable just for their handset. The same USB-C cable that powers a MacBook can also juice up the iPhone.
But it’s likely to go well beyond that. Users will almost certainly be able to make use of the wide array of USB-C peripherals made for Mac with their iOS device, like SSDs and external displays.
iPadOS is a close variant of iOS, and iPads with USB-C can already use of nearly all USB-C accessories.
