iPhone’s built-in Calendar app has an ongoing bug that prevents 2022 holidays from appearing in a number of countries, including the United Kingdom.

The problem first cropped up in mid-2021, but iPhone owners assumed the holidays would appear as the new year drew closer. Almost a week into 2022, a large number of users remain unable to see them.

2022 holidays missing from iPhone

Apple helpfully adds all national holidays to its built-in Calendar app so we can properly plan our days off work (probably). But you may be shocked to find that, according to Apple, you have no days off in 2022.

Users in Australia, the United Kingdom and a whole bunch of European countries — including Denmark, Germany, Portugal, Spain and Sweden — do not see any public holidays for this year. (The holidays appear as expected in the United States.)

The problem was first reported by MacRumors, which initially thought only U.K. users were affected. However, a large number of iPhone owners across many countries have since reported the same problem.

The root cause seems to be a bug in Apple’s Calendar service. Strangely, the problem seems limited to recent versions of iOS. Those using older iPhone models reportedly see 2022 holidays as expected.

Apple already working on a fix

The good news is that it looks like Apple is already working on putting things right. Some users in the countries listed above report that their public holidays are returning to the Calendar app. But it’s not fixed for everyone yet.

If you can’t wait for a fix, you may find that your government offers a downloadable list of national holidays in an ICS file that you can add to the Calendar app. That’s certainly the case for those in the United Kingdom.
