The Apple Self Service Repair program will soon expand to include the iPhone 14 series as well as MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models released in 2022.
The program provides customers access to parts and tools they need to fix their own devices.
Get tools and parts from Apple to fix iPhone 14 series and additional MacBook
Apple responded to criticism from “right to repair” advocates that its devices are too hard to work on with the Self Service Repair program, which launched in 2022. It offers genuine Apple parts and tools to allow users to fix many iPhone and MacBook models.
On Wednesday, June 21, all four iPhone 14 models, the 13-inch MacBook Air powered by M2, and MacBook Pro models powered by M2 Pro and M2 Max will be added to the program. These handsets and notebooks all debuted in 2022.
In addition, Self Service Repair will also include the True Depth camera and top speaker for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineups — as well as Mac desktops with M1 — in the U.S., Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and the U.K.
The program is open to anyone, but Apple warns it’s best for “anyone with experience repairing electronic devices.”
To get started, review the repair manual for the product to be fixed on Apple’s support website. Then visit the Apple Self Service Repair Store to order the necessary parts and tools.
Simplifying the iPhone System Configuration process, too
Adding new devices isn’t the only change to the repair program. An important step in fixing an iPhone just got easier.
According to Apple, “Running System Configuration after a repair authenticates genuine Apple parts, updates firmware and calibrates parts to ensure maximum performance and quality. “ It also links the Face ID and Touch ID biometric sensors to the Secure Enclave on the logic board.
The Self Service Repair program has made the System Configuration process easier to use. Users can do the entire process themselves by placing their devices into Diagnostics mode and following onscreen prompts. It’s no longer necessary to contact the Self Service Repair support team to run the software.
