LimeWire, the popular file-sharing software that launched in 2000, recently rebranded itself as an AI-powered content-publishing and community platform.

With the launch of LimeWire AI Studio, the company aims to give content creators ownership through the power of artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies.

LimeWire becomes AI-powered content-publishing platform

LimeWire is on a mission to reshape the creator economy. And it’s going to try to do that as “the first content-subscription platform … with the concept of ownership at its core and leveraging the benefits of blockchain technology and Web3,” co-CEOs Paul and Julian Zehetmayr said.

Web3 refers to the developing idea of a decentralized World Wide Web, with blockchain technologies and token-based economics underlying most online activities. The idea is that anyone could profit, rather than just a limited number of giant tech companies cashing in.

With the new LimeWire AI Studio, all the many and varied content creators out there — photographers, streamers, podcasters, musicians — can create, publish and monetize images, videos and music with the power of AI. And it will all work through communities of fans.

Communities of fans

On the LimeWire homepage, you can access tools to create and edit images. In the near future, you'll be able to work with videos and music, too.

The community aspect of LimeWire will be based on direct fan membership, which has its own benefits. Here’s how LimeWire describes it:

LimeWire is a platform for content creators, artists and brands to create membership-based communities for their most passionate fans. We aim to help artists build a recurring revenue stream by providing a platform and framework for direct fan membership.

In turn, fans receive exclusive content, access to a private community, the ability to directly communicate with the artists and brands they love, and become a part of their journey.

And in the spirit of blockchain, LimeWire will have its own little economy, so to speak:

Through blockchain technology, we make exclusive content and assets ownable and tradeable, allowing fans to not only consume exclusive content but also to directly participate in the success of the creators they support. In short, the new LimeWire is the first Web3 subscription platform for artists, brands and creators.

LimeWire AI Studio developing fast

LimeWire AI Studio launched recently. Currently, it can be used for AI image generation and editing. But soon, creators will be able to use it for generative AI music and video creation, the company said.

And while the studio supports AI models including DXL, SD 2.1 and DALL-E2, LimeWire plans to launch its own proprietary model this month.

“Our goal is to build a multi-content AI Studio that allows users to create full music tracks and sophisticated video content using AI,” the company said.

Crypto token and ad-revenue sharing

LimeWire also provides a crypto utility token called LMWR. Creators can use it to pay for prompts, earn ad revenue share for AI-generated content and more.

LMWR Token can be bought and traded on many crypto exchanges, including Kraken, ByBit and UniSwap. And LimeWire allows users to automatically mint AI-generated content as NFTs on the Polygon and Algorand blockchains, the company said.

For creators to profit, LimeWire built advertising revenue sharing into its platform. Creators automatically receive up to 70% of all ad revenue generated from people viewing their content. Ad revenue is paid monthly in LMWR, LimeWire’s native token.

The basic version of LimeWire AI Studio is free, so how is the company getting by? It offers paid subscription plans for additional prompts, more models and a variety of other features. Pricing ranges from $9.99 per month to $99.99 per month, depending on the subscription plan.
