Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo will take the leads as police detectives in Criminal Record, a thriller series coming to Apple TV+.
It will be set in racially charged and politically polarized modern London.
Criminal Record will be ‘a powerful, character-driven thriller’
The drama starts with an anonymous phone call that brings an old murder case back to light. Two cops are tasked with solving it. Capaldi plays a well-connected Detective Chief Inspector determined to protect his legacy. The other is a young Detective Sergeant in the early stages of her career, played by Jumbo.
“The series touches on issues of race, institutional failure, and the quest to find common ground in a polarized Britain,” says Apple.
Oscar-winner Peter Capaldi has had a lengthy career, but is perhaps best known for playing the Doctor in Doctor Who.
Cush Jumbo earned a Critics Choice Award nomination as best supporting actress in The Good Fight.
It is not yet known when Criminal Record will debut on Apple’s streaming service. When available, it will consist of eight one-hour episodes.
Plenty o’ thrillers on Apple TV+
The series will join an expanding collection of thrillers on Apple TV+, including the critically acclaimed Severance and Slow Horses. There’s also Shining Girls, a metaphysical thriller staring Elizabeth Moss. And these are just shows that have debuted in the past few months.
Watching any of the broad range of shows on Apple TV+ comes with a $4.99 per month subscription.
