Apple TV+ will present an adaptation of the bestselling novel Dear Edward about a boy who was the sole survivor of a tragic plane crash.
The series is being written and will be showrun by Jason Katims, who created the classic series Parenthood and produced Friday Night Lights.

Dear Edward will be both heartbreaking and uplifting
Dear Edward tells the story of Edward Adler (played by Colin O’Brien), a 12-year-old boy who survives a plane crash that kills every other passenger, including his family. As Edward and a diverse ensemble of others affected by the tragedy try to make sense of lives, unexpected friendships, romances and communities are formed.
The novel is by Ann Napolitano, while Katims is taking on adapting it for Apple TV+. He has a multi-year deal with Apple to develop and produce shows. This is the first fruit of that deal made in 2019.
Dear Edward will also star Emmy nominee Connie Britton, who was on Friday Night Lights. Taylor Schilling (Pam and Tommy, Orange is the New Black) will star in the upcoming series as well.
It is not known when the series will make its debut on Apple’s streaming service. But it’s promising “a heartbreaking, life-affirming and uplifting story about survival, resilience, connection and the examination of what makes us human.”

Apple’s streaming service boasts a growing catalog of series and films, including dramas, thrillers, comedies, sci-fi, documentaries and more. Almost everything on it is original content, not re-runs.
There’s quite a bit of new programming to look forward to in the company weeks. Suspicion, a thriller starring Uma Thurman, kicks off February 4. It’ll be followed on February 18 by Severance, another thriller.
On a lighter note, the second season of the musical comedy Central Park premieres on Apple’s streaming service on March 4. But later that month will come the drama WeCrashed starring Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway, soon followed by the multi-national drama Pachinko.
