Apple today confirmed that it will continue to accept App Store submissions over the holiday period for the first time.
The company usually takes a short break in December, during which App Store submissions are closed and developers must scramble to get their updates out. That changes this year, but Apple warns that reviews may be delayed.
App Store remains open for submissions over the holidays
Last year, like in previous years, the App Store closed its doors from December 23 through December 27. While it was closed, developers were unable to submit new apps or updates, so they had to ensure they were prepared ahead of time.
This year, however, Apple has decided that App Store submissions will remain open throughout the holiday period. However, it still urges developers to ensure their apps are ready for the “busiest season,” and warns reviews will take time.
Here is the statement:
This year, we’re pleased to continue accepting submissions in App Store Connect throughout the upcoming holidays. Make sure your apps are up to date and ready for the busiest season on the App Store. Due to anticipated high volume, plan to send time-sensitive submissions early. Please note that reviews may take longer to complete from November 24 to 28 and December 23 to 27.
Updates will keep coming
For users, this should mean that we’ll continue to see new App Store releases and updates throughout December. However, with developers keen to take a break like everyone else, there likely won’t be many to look forward to.
